Before & After School Age Care

Armed Services YMCA offers affordable and accessible, quality child care programs for military children. Our trained, dedicated, and caring staff offer school-age care to children ages 5 through 12 a safe and reliable learning-focused environment. Our program prepares students for future success by supporting both cognitive development and social-emotional growth with opportunities for enrichment and connection in a safe, clean, and healthy setting.

Military families have an overwhelming need for child care. Affordable child care can increase a military family’s financial security and well-being, allowing service members to stay focused on their mission and providing spouses and partners the opportunity to work and pursue education. With military spouse unemployment rates averaging six times that of the national average, accessible, quality child care is vital to military family readiness and resilience.

Access to affordable, reliable, and high-quality child care opportunities provide families with financial stability and family resilience. For military families in particular, child care is essential to the mission readiness of the service member and to the employment of the military spouse.

Additionally, children enrolled in Five Star Kids Academy receive:

• STREAM-based (science, technology, reading, engineering, art, mathematics) learning activities;
• Educational partnerships to promote literacy and academic achievement;
• Homework support;
• Daily physical activity and free play;
• Opportunities for creativity, mindfulness, and critical thinking;
• Engaging lessons and activities that focus on character development, resilience, and positivity to build connections and supportive, long-term friendships and
• Transportation is provided to and from eligible school locations.

To reserve placement in our Five Star Kids Academy, You will need to complete the steps listed below. Supporting documents, forms, and online portal links are listed in the Enrollment Resources section below.

• Register for a no-cost ASYMCA membership account using the link in the Enrollment Resources section below.  This registration is used to sign up for childcare services offered by the ASYMCA.  Please be sure to list all household members in this account. A step-by-step instruction sheet is available for download in the Enrollment Resources section.
• Submit your registration via the online form located in the Enrollment Resources section. If you are unable to see or access this form, it may be due to the use of a secured military network. If you are not on this type of network and are still are having difficulty viewing the form, please contact our office for assistance at 757-363-1884. For your convenience, ALL children in your family will be enrolled on this ONE registration application.
• Using the links in the Enrollment Resources section, review and apply for Tuition Assistance through the appropriate tuition subsidy.
• After we have received your application for placement, an ASYMCA Hampton Roads staff member will contact you to schedule an appointment to finalize your child(ren)’s registration. You will need to bring the following documents to this appointment:
  • A current doctor signed physical, dated within the last year
  • A copy of your child’s immunization record
  • Child’s Original Birth Certificate
  • Valid photo ID for parent or guardian
  • Current LES for active-duty military verification
  • Medication Authorization Form for prescription and non-prescription medications (signed by parent and doctor)
  • Emergency Action Plan (this is mandatory for students requiring Emergency Medications, and it is provided by your child’s physician and must be signed by both the doctor and parent)
  • Current Allergy/Asthma Action Plan (completed by a doctor), if applicable.
  • You will complete a CACFP form during your scheduled appointment.
  • Plan to pay one-time family registration $50
  • Create your ProCare Parent Account following the step-by-step directions in the email that will be sent to you
