Recognizing Amazing Military Families

In recognition of the sacrifices families make to support their Marines, Sailors, Coast Guardsman, Soldiers, and Airmen, the President of the United States signs a proclamation every November declaring it Military Family Month. This annual proclamation marks the beginning of the month-long celebration of the Military Family in which the Department of Defense and the nation will honor the commitment and sacrifices made by the families of the nation’s service members.

For the past 30 years, the Armed Services YMCA of Hampton Roads has taken this premise further, by hosting the Five Star Military Family Recognition Luncheon. The Five Star is an annual event that recognizes active-duty enlisted and junior officer service members and their families who best represent service to their country and commitment to their local community through a spirit of volunteerism and philanthropic support.
